José Pedro Sousa is an Associate Professor at FAUP (Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto) and a Council Member of eCAADe (Education and Research in Computer Aided Architectural Design in Europe). Holding a PhD in Architecture, he was educated at FAUP and Técnico (Portugal), UIC (Spain), MIT, and UPenn (US). At FAUP, he founded and directs the Digital Fabrication Lab (DFL/CEAU), a research group dedicated to advancing the digital transition in architectural design and construction. He has led significant research projects in robotic technologies, modular construction, 3D construction printing, and material innovation with cork, collaborating with major companies like Amorim, Mota Engil, and DST. He has also held academic positions at FCTUC (Coimbra), ESARQ-UIC (Barcelona), and IAAC (Barcelona). His work, integrating teaching, research, and practice, has been featured at international conferences and in leading journals. He has received several distinctions, including the FEIDAD '05, the Young Researcher Award 2009 of UL/CGD, and the Pedagogical Innovation Award from UP in 2017 and 2018. He co-chaired the 2019 joint Conference of eCAADe and SIGraDi at FAUP, themed "Architecture in the Age of the 4th Industrial Revolution." Since March 2021, he has been a member of the High-Level Roundtable of the New European Bauhaus initiative.
