Wood is an extremely versatile, beautiful natural material and can play a decisive role in the decarbonisation of the building sector. ‘Timber cities’ can store carbon for decades or even centuries in buildings using long-life engineered wood products. Architects, designers and engineers have become increasingly interested in building with wood and other biomaterials to transform the built environment into sustainable, beautiful and inclusive living spaces for the future.
This webinar presents the state-of-the-art of digitalisation in wood construction and architecture. Digital tools and Industry 4.0 allow to better integrate the whole process from design, planning, pre-fabrication and construction. The talks will illustrate:
- How digital tools enable companies to build better, faster, and more cost-effective and make wood buildings more competitive;
- How beautiful buildings are created, using resources efficiently, avoiding waste and storing carbon;
- How leading companies adopt the digital transformation and facilitate better collaboration in the construction ecosystem;
- How all of this contributes to the ambitions of the New European Bauhaus.
The webinar is co-organised by InnovaWood, the main EU network for wood research, innovation and education, together with the projects digiNEB.eu, Basajaun and the Wood4Bauhaus Alliance.

After his graduation in Civil Engineering at the University of Trento in 2005, he has been working in the field of timber constructions, both as technical manager in companies of the sector and as freelancer. From 2005 to 2015, he has been technical manager at Rothoblaas, a company specialised in steel connectors and solution for the wooden construction industry. Since 2015 he has been working at the Paterno Group company XLAM Dolomiti, in which he now holds the role of Chairman and CEO. He has carried out teaching and research activities at the University of Trento and is a member of the ARCA Technical Committee and Arca trainer since the origins of this certification system. He holds several patents and has authored numerous scientific publications. He also is current Director of Assolegno (Italian Timber Associations) for the group of producers and builders of large wooden structures.
Forest Engineer from Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, Spain. He has developed his professional career in different branches of the company Cadwork, the BIM software leader in the timber construction industry from over 30 years ago. Between 2005 and 2009 worked as an engineer and technical sales professional for Cadwork S.A.-Switzerland- and between 2009 and 2019 for Cardwork Iberica, based in Spain. From 2020 is the co-director of Cadwork Ibérica & Latinoamerica.
Timber Engineer with a passion for timber who began working in the industry over 10 years ago. His fascination with wood has led him to pursue a career that incorporates both his expertise in joinery and his background in timber engineering. As a structural engineer and technical sales professional for Simonin, a French glulam manufacturing company, Jannick has found the perfect outlet to combine his mastery of precise joinery techniques with his knowledge of building structural analysis, which he gained during his master's degree in 2016 at Ecole Supérieure du Bois, ESB-France.
Since 2016, she is a professor at Lodz University of Technology, Poland, and Head of the Department of Digital Technologies in Architecture and Urban Planning. She holds a PhD in Architecture from the University of Strathclyde, UK, and a MSc in Architecture and Urban Planning from Lodz University of Technology, Poland. Currently, she is the leader of the BIMaHead European project and of the Polish Language BIM Dictionary Team. Between 2008 and 2010 she was an advisor to the Director of the National Heritage Board of Poland.
