European Community Land Trust Network
Type: Association
Focus: Community/Housing
We are a wide variety of actors actively developing the Community Land Trust (CLT) model, either directly working with CLTs, networks of CLTs, or supporting the creation of new CLTs. We define CLTs as non-profit, democratic, community-led organisations. They develop and manage homes that are affordable to low and median income households, as well as other assets that contribute to thriving local communities. They act as long-term stewards of these assets, ensuring they remain permanently affordable. This is achieved through mechanisms that ensure that any additional value generated is retained within the CLT. The CLT model has the values of the New European Bauhaus at its heart. It is inclusive as it develops housing for people with low incomes; sustainable because the very long-term thinking required to achieve sustainability is embedded in the model; and beautiful because it produces high-quality housing through participatory processes to ensure they are just what people need.

Institute of Urbanism, TU Graz
Type: School
Focus: Urban developmment/Urban design/Education
The Institute of Urbanism is responsible for the education of students of the Faculty of Architecture in all areas of urban design and regional planning, both in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes. At the Institute, students learn about the composition principles to position and design (or remove) buildings to a building ensemble within a territorial system (Scale 10.000-200). In doing so, they also reflect on planning at the regional and urban level, which combines time and space into transformation. Students experiment with territorial transformations based on systems that lead design operations to minimize the environmental footprint and the consumption of non-renewable resources, and to promote new forms of more frugal land use. In addition, students reflect on growing inequality and social conflicts that are exacerbated by non-integrative urban design. To avoid these conflicts, students learn new integrative practices of spatial transformation that support appropriation.

Karlsruhe Institute of Technology
Type: Company
Focus: Building/Construction
Our institutional name “KIT Innovation Hub – Prevention in Construction” reflects the idea to extend the maintenance-free service life of buildings and infrastructures through preventive actions: e.g., alternative building materials, technologies, construction methods or services. When the actual service life is extended from 20-30 years to the planned service life of 100-120 years, the costs incurred during the life cycle of an infrastructure structure are dramatically reduced, since repairs that occur after 20-30 years entail economic and ecological costs that are up to three times higher than the costs incurred during the construction of the new infrastructure.

Wood4Bauhaus
Type: Association
Focus: Timber/Building material
The European wood-based sector has launched the Wood Sector Alliance for the New European Bauhaus (Wood4Bauhaus) to establish an open platform that brings together its manifold stakeholders. Wood, an extremely versatile natural material being part of a multitude of products, is a circular material par excellence. Long-life products using wood can store carbon for decades or even centuries in buildings and living spaces. They can also be reused, remanufactured and recycled to further prolong the storage time. This new alliance aims to raise awareness for the transformative power of the Circular Economy, put a spotlight on the versatility of innovative wood products and building systems, and facilitate dedicated co-creation partnerships with the wood sector for the New European Bauhaus. The European Commission’s New European Bauhaus calls for a creative, interdisciplinary, novel movement embedded in the society to imagine together a sustainable future and to engage on a transformative path towards affordable and beautiful living spaces in the urban and rural environment. A key step is the transformation of the building sector into a circular model that can also counteract the escalating climate crisis.
